Register for the "International summer program in cinema"

Rome. International students and communication professionals are given the chance to attend a program aimed at combining one of the most important pages of global and Italian cinema history with the dynamics governing the modern film industry and the audiovisual market. The program is open to all students, graduates and professionals with a special interest in the film industry. This Summer school will be held in Rome, Vatican City and Florence from July 3rd to July 14th. The Course will be leaded by Dario Edoardo Viganò, Prefect of the Secretariat for Communication of the Holy See, Full Professor of Communication at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, Lecturer at LUISS University. The program consists of technical lessons and experiential learning concerning the audiovisual industry, workshops on the history of cinema and censorship as well as guided tours of renowned cultural sites such as the Vatican Film Library.  The program will take place in some of the most exclusive institutional locations in Rome (UNESCO City of Film since 2015), of Vatican City and Florence. Traditional lectures will be accompanied by masterclasses and guided tours of unique filming and cultural locations.  The program includes both lectures and workshops on Italian cinema history, specifically concerning the fifties to the late sixties, which was dominated by a relaunch of the Italian cultural industry and by the Hollywood on the Tiber phenomenon, with major American film productions set in the Italian capital city. Moreover, thanks to the extraordinary contribution by the Vatican Film Library and Secretariat for the Communication of the Holy See, a specific focus on cinema and religion will be offered. Major film production with religious characteristics will be analyzed, alongside the market dynamics and the movie theater circuit, in the renewal environment promoted by the Ecumenical Council of Vatican II.  The summer program will also examine the international film and audiovisual industry, thanks to lectures delivered by experts, masterclasses, and round tables on production (movies, TV series, web series), cinema funding, marketing, regional film commissions and distribution.
