Kiev, June, 4th, 2018 (SIGNIS/INTERFILM). At the 47th International Film Festival Kiev "Molodist", held from May 27 - June 3, 2018, the Ecumenical Jury, appointed by INTERFILM and SIGNIS, awards its Prize for a film in the international competition for full-length films to Retablo by Álvaro Delgado-Aparicio (Peru, Germany, Norway, 2018)
The film is about fourteen-year-old Segundo, who is taught the craft of making retablos, Peruvian story-boxes, by his father. His world collapses when he witnesses an incident. Nevertheless, his love for his father gives him the strength to move ahead. The jury explains that “the director captivates us with the colorful and lively world he portrays and the respect he shows for the Quechuan culture of the Andes.”
The Jury gives a prize in the international competition for short films. The awarded film is Petites filles (Grams), by Camille Japy (France, 2017).
Under the shock of death, mother-daughter relationships rekindle the life force. “The film reminds us with humor and in an unexpected way that death is an integral part of life”, says the Jury members.
The Jury also awards a film in the international competition for student films. The Ecumenical Jury awards Mit’ (The Moment), by Julia Tamtura (Ukraine, 2018), because “In only six minutes, the film shows the power of love. From the ruins of his house, a young soldier phones his mother and shares with her his belief in a hopeful and peaceful future.”
The members of the jury were Marianna Kavka, Ukraine, Jacques Vercueils, France and Rita Weinert, Germany
