Besancon, November, 20th, 2017 (SIGNIS). At the 17th Festival des cinémas d'Afrique de Besançon, the SIGNIS jury conferred its prize on the film: La Belle et la Meute, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia, 2016)

This is a film of excellent technical quality, with a masterfully crafted script which presents realistic scenes of burning issues of the day.  In the face of multiple violence and humiliation, the film gives a universal dimension to a true story which happened in Tunisia, and which can happen in any other part of the world.

Through their exceptional determination, the actors showed great proof of their active faith in God and their confidence and trust in justice and truth, which are fundamental values for all societies. The courage and determination shown by the lead actress in her struggle against all odds, opens the door of poor and provides assurance that freedom can be won.  Defending human dignity, defending the poor and oppressed are great values offered by this film.
The SIGNIS jury members were: Marie-Thérèse Henriet (France), Walter C. Ihejirika (Nigeria) and Yvan Paradisi (France)
