SIGNIS –WACC Human Rights Award 2017 goes to "Maman Colonelle"
Buenos Aires, March, 23rd, 2017. At the Pantalla Pinamar festival, SIGNIS Argentina gave its prize to the film “El Invierno” by Emiliano Torres .
The jury, composed by Lidia Greco, Susana Velleggia and Sebastián Schindel, decided to award this film “for having done, with care and sobriety, a testimony of the difficult life and work conditions of rural workers in Patagonian ranches, where loneliness, isolation and exploitation convert human beings into objects, just to enrich others.”
Evans, the old foreman of a Patagonian ranch, welcomes a group of workers for the shearing season. It’s the same every year, the only thing that changes are the men’s faces. But this time, at the end of the season, Evans is sacked from his job and replaced by Jara, a young ranch hand from the north. The change won’t be easy for either of them. Each, in his own way, will have to survive the coming winter.
Pantalla Pinamar International Film Festival was held from March 11-18 in Argentina. The festival has been creating a dialogue between Argentinean and European films since 2004.
During the 8 days of the festival, an eclectic and appealing programme was offered to the visitors, with more than 100 films. Free outdoor screenings and activities designed specifically for teenagers were also organized.
